I met with the Emir, the Minister of Foreign Affairs and the Deputy Minister who has been handling many of the issues related to the Afghan evacuees, and our troops there. Link to image I met servicemen and women who are taking time away from their own families to ensure Afghan families are taken care. I met soldiers, sailors & airmen who were serving there for a year or more — and while missing home and their families, served with pride and professionalism. Link to image I could not have been more impressed. It reminds me of why we thank our veterans for their service on Veterans Day. And from the bottom of my heart, I want to thank the woman I spoke with — serving from Nebraska — who was searching high and low for halal meat and grab and go snacks to make life easier and a little brighter for the refugee families. Link to image I want to especially thank the New Jersey troops I met who miss the Garden State while they are serving in the desert, but made me incredibly proud of our great state. (And yes, I am working to lower taxes so you can all retire here!) I also want to thank the Qataris who have provided an incredible amount of support for our evacuation effort. And continue to support the evacuee children with art, social programs, and sports to make a tough time a bit easier.
